Our History

Calvary began in a small congregation, East Fork United Methodist Church, in rural Boyd County, in the fall of 1993. The school rose out of a desire by parents to have an alternative to public schools, and a desire to have their children trained in the “ways of the Lord”. Our first year, we had 12 students ranging in grades kindergarten through seventh grade. After only three years, the school had grown to 40 children, and outgrown their facility at the church. At that time a school left vacant after a county consolidation was available for lease on the other side of the county and Calvary moved there.

After three years, a local United Methodist church, Grassland Community, invited us to become a part of their ministry, and move into their newly completed Family Life Center. We have been a part of Grassland’s ministry for the last 10 years.

Our school is now a kindergarten through twelfth grade, and has graduated seven students. Our alumni are attending colleges all across Kentucky, such as University of Kentucky, Transylvania, Asbury College, Berea, and Ashland Community and Technical College
